What is an MVI file?

MVI files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. An MVI file is a script containing commands for a movie or animation generated by the AutoFlix component of AutoCAD computer-aided design software. MVI is also the filename extension of a video clip saved in Motion Pixels version 1 (MVI1) format. Such videos are used as cutscenes in games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Treasure Quest. Another type of MVI file is a video captured by PowerShot digital cameras and saved in AVI format.

How to open MVI files

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open an MVI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MVI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MVI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
