All about OFD Files
The OFD file type is primarily associated with OFD Reader.
What is an OFD file
How can I open an OFD file?
You need a suitable software like OFD Reader to open an OFD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OFD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OFD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

OFD format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the OFD files is as follows:
OFD is a very common file type and mainly uses a defined OFD format. The file formats most commonly found in OFD files are:
- 90% of all OFD files use the ZIP algorithm, so several files are combined and compressed into one OFD file. 14 to 16 compressed files with names like OFD.xml, \Doc_0\Annots\Annotations.xml, \Doc_0\Annots\Page_0\Annotation.xml, \Doc_0\Attachs\Attachments.xml, \Doc_0\Attachs\original_invoice.xml, \Doc_0\Document.xml, \Doc_0\DocumentRes.xml, \Doc_0\Pages\, \Doc_0\Pages\Page_0\Content.xml, \Doc_0\PublicRes.xml, \Doc_0\Res\image_1.jb2, \Doc_0\Signs\Sign_0\Signature.xm and \Doc_0\Signs\Signatures.xml are common. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The files are 13 KB to 46 KB in size, with a median of 14 KB. The files contain the following words: OFD.xml. Such files are related to invoice and manual.
- 6% of all OFD files have the same signature 46 50 17 48 DD 09 6C FA 12 C4 E8 15 9A A8 6C 0F. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 35 KB with most files being between 1 KB and 800 KB in size. The files contain the following words: Form name, _FamilyPath, Formslib, _ChannelsID, _OFIData and Clientid. Files like these are sometimes connected to form, information, template, contents, fittings, incorporating, application, undertaking, completion, conditions, standard, edition, notice, fifth and sale.
The remaining 4% of all OFD files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, PDF and COFD. These files are often connected to munged, sample, aufmablattep, orario, liste or bake. Just click the "Choose your .ofd file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your OFD file is.

How to solve problems with OFD files
- Associate the OFD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open documents. Because only the current version supports the latest OFD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available OFD Reader update.
- To make sure that your OFD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
