Opening PI2 Files

The PI2 file type is primarily associated with XnView.

PI2File Extension PI2
File extension: PI2
File type:  uncompressed bitmap

What is a PI2 file

PI2 files mostly belong to XnView by XnSoft. PI2 files are usually high-resolution images saved in the proprietary image format used by Portrait Innovations. A PI2 file coded in this format can only be opened with Portrait Innovations' proprietary software because the file is encrypted before it is burned to Photo CDs. These PI2 files are typically found alongside an "images" folder that contains low resolution or high resolution JPG files. PI2 filename extension is also associated with 640x200 pixel, 4-color uncompressed bitmap images created by DEGAS, a raster graphics editor used on Atari ST operating systems. You can view this type of PI2 images with XnView.

How to open a PI2 file

You need a suitable software like XnView to open a PI2 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PI2 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PI2 file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

  3. Studio2 (encrypted high resolution image) by Portrait Innovations
Studio2 appears to be one of Portrait Innovations studios with software and equipment that can decrypt and print high resolution PI2 images stored in image CDs. Both the company and file format have been discontinued. This file format is classified as Raster Image.

PI2 file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the PI2 files:

PI2 is not a common file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in PI2 files:

The remaining 46% of all PI2 files are different files with different signatures, such as HKkm and hoven. If you want to find out which format your PI2 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .pi2 file to view this image".
