PI2 file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the PI2 files:
PI2 is not a common file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in PI2 files:
- 45% of all PI2 files start with the magic bytes ôKjM, which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 1 MB to 3 MB in size. It is a modern file type. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as x0rwT and SpD%. A usual file name is 0001.pi2 or 0002.pi2.
- 9% of all PI2 files belong to DEGAS med-res bitmap. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 740 bytes and 1 MB in size.
The remaining 46% of all PI2 files are different files with different signatures, such as HKkm and hoven. If you want to find out which format your PI2 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .pi2 file to view this image".

How to solve problems with PI2 files
- Associate the PI2 file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open uncompressed bitmaps. Because only the current version supports the latest PI2 file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the XnSoft manufacturer website after an available XnView update.
- To make sure that your PI2 file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
