PIC file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the PIC files:
The PIC file extension is very common and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 20% of all PIC files are associated with QuickDraw/PICT bitmap. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. Most of these files are 13 KB to 880 KB in size. This file type was primarily in use more than 20 years ago. These files are often associated with stouffer and lady.
- 15% of all PIC files are based on the popular JFIF file format. JFIF is short for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a bitmap graphic that uses JPEG compression. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The average file size is 85 KB with most files being between 11 KB and 420 KB in size. The keywords JFIF are typical for these files. The file name hiv00000.pic is typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to tomh.
All other PIC files (65%) have no consistent format, often e.g. Softimage Picture bitmap, Radiance High Dynamic Range bitmap, PIC bitmap, IBM Storyboard bitmap, PC Paint/Pictor bitmap, IBM Storyboard screen Capture, PC Paint bitmap, PNG, FORM and UGC. The category is clsky, perspective, carreau, ugatalk, undated, photo, diva or sent. You can get all the details of your PIC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pic file to view this image" above.

a pic bitmap is a special file format by XnSoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PIC files
- Associate the PIC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open bitmaps. Because only the current version supports the latest PIC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the XnSoft manufacturer website after an available XnView update.
- To make sure that your PIC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PIC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
