What is a RE file?

RE files mostly belong to SEFIP. These RE files are payroll records used in Brazil to store and transfer employee wage and tax data.

How to open RE files

You need a suitable software like SEFIP to open a RE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. RE file extension format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the RE files looks like this:

RE is not a common file extension and includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in RE files are:

• 25% of all RE files start with the magic bytes 00 , which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. A typical file size is 1 KB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. CENTRO. The file name Sefip.re or GRRF.RE is typical for these files.
• 5% of all RE files start with the bytes 0 , which are crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. A typical file size is 210 bytes. Examples of file names are INFOTECS.RE.
