Opening an RGD File
The RGD file type is primarily associated with RAFT.
What is an RGD file?
How do you open RGD files?
You need a suitable software like RAFT to open an RGD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RGD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RGD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert RGD files:
- RAFT by Redbeet
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. RGD files are often referred to as RAFT games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Rosegarden (MIDI device definition) by Chris Cannam and Andy GreenRosegarden is a digital audio workstation with music composition and score writing software. An RGD file created by this program contains a MIDI device definition. This file format is classified as Settings.
- War Hammer (game data archive) by RelicWar Hammer is a real-time strategy military warfare/conquest video game series. A data archive in this game is saved in an RGD file. This file format is classified as Game.
RGD file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the RGD files:
The RGD file extension is very common and is primarily used by a single program. But the following two file formats are common:
- 75% of all RGD files are associated with Raft game data files, which internally utilize the well-known .NET format. The .NET format is used to save Microsoft .NET Framework objects to a file (ex. save game state as file) via object serialization. Such a .NET object may contain functions and data like settings, images or videos. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. RGD files can be up to 1 MB in size, but are often around 2 KB - 260 KB. The file type is a fairly new file format. The following keywords are characteristic: FAssembly-CSharp, Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, RGD_Game, LastPlayed, Mode, TimePlayedSeconds, World, WorldName, RGDTypeByte, SortingOrderByte and Behaviour. A common filename is RGD_Users.rgd or Settings.rgd. Files like these have the following tags: users, world, raft, data, user, solo, creative and survival.
- 15% of all RGD files start with the magic bytes Relic Chunky , which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 1 KB and 110 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. DATAAEGD and Relic Chunky. Such RGD files store data about squad, race, marine, guard, space and chaos.
All other RGD files (10%) have no consistent format, frequently e.g. Header and TAPE. Files like these are sometimes linked to assault, tyranids, necron, sisters, research, player or survey. You can get all the details of your RGD file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .rgd file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for RGD File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

EXEFile: C:\UDEWIN\ude.exe %1
an rgd saved game is a special file format by Redbeet and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RGD files
- Associate the RGD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open saved games. Because only the current version supports the latest RGD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Redbeet manufacturer website after an available RAFT update.
- To make sure that your RGD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RGD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
