What is an RTN file?

How to open an RTN file

You need a suitable software like REDCINE-X PRO to open an RTN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. RTN file format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the RTN files comes to the following conclusion:

As a file extension, RTN isn't very common and includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 65% of all RTN files start with the bytes REDTHUMBNAIL crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 30 KB. The file type is very old but is also used today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as REDTHUMBNAIL, (:3=<9387@H\N@DWE78PmQW_bghg>Mqypdx\egc, /cB8Bccccccc, Bccccccccccc, JFIF and cB8Bcccccccc.
• 20% of all RTN files use ZIP compression, multiple files are compressed and combined into one RTN file. An RTN file can contain up to 1 files (mostly 1 - 1). File names are e.g. routine_0. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. The file size is in the range of 930 bytes to 2 KB. The keywords routine_0 and QJI-N are typical for these files. These files are attributed to routine.
