What is an RTS file?

RTS files mostly belong to Text Editor. An RTS file often acts as a configuration file that an application reads at runtime. In many cases, it serves two roles:

• Runtime Settings: This version stores parameters and options that a program or game uses to control its behavior. Such files are common in software like those linked with BioWare Resource Files.
• Regression Analysis Data: In some instances, an RTS file holds structured numeric data used for time series analysis, often called a RATS data file (short for Regression Analysis of Time Series).

How to open an RTS file

You need a suitable software like Text Editor to open an RTS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RTS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RTS file directly in the browser:. RTS file extension format:

To view or edit RTS files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the RTS files looks like this:

The RTS file extension is not found very often and includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 45% of all RTS files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "SRTS" at the beginning. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 110 MB to 120 MB in size, with a median of 110 MB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The keywords SRTS and Outdoo are typical for these files. The file name runtime.rts is typical for these files.
• 8% of all RTS files use the same file format, which have the signature cal 1945 1 . If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are on average 2 KB in size and range from 300 bytes to 2 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: all 0 2000:4, cal 1945 1 4, data(for=rats,compact=average) / gdpd fyff lhur, open data \jepvar\ddisk\jepvar.rat, set dp / = log(gdpd(t)/gdpd(t-1)), set p / = 400*dp, set r / = fyff(t) and compute nph. JEP_FCST.RTS or jep1.rts is a typical file name. Files like these are sometimes connected to fcst.
