Opening RTB Files

The RTB file type is primarily associated with Miro.

RTBFile Extension RTB
File extension: RTB
File type:  backup file

What is an RTB file?

RTB files mostly belong to Miro. Most RTB files serve as Miro board archives. They are backups that store a Miro whiteboard session in a compressed ZIP format.
Some files labeled as RTB are used as Real-Time Binary files. These files are associated with runtime systems that process binary data in real time.
A few RTB files come from modeling tools. They are known as Rational Rose Template Binary files or are part of a Casewise model, used by systems design software. For more details on this variant, see this page.
The method to open an RTB file depends on its use:

  • If it is a Miro board archive, use Miro software or an unzip tool to view its contents.
  • If it is a Real-Time Binary file, use the specialized runtime environment.
  • If it is a Rational Rose Template Binary file, open it with the appropriate modeling application.

How to open an RTB file

You need a suitable software like Miro to open an RTB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RTB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RTB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RTB file format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the RTB files is as follows:

The RTB extension is very commonly found and mainly uses a defined RTB format. The following file formats are most commonly found in RTB files:

All the rest of the RTB files (11%) have different formats. These files sometimes refer to modeling, opdracht, remote, board, step, alignment, review or scrum. You can get all the details of your RTB file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .rtb file to analyze" above.

How to solve problems with RTB files

  • Associate the RTB file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open backup files. Because only the current version supports the latest RTB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Miro update.
  • To make sure that your RTB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
