Opening an SD2 File
The SD2 file type is primarily associated with SAS.
What is an SD2 file?
This format is used primarily in statistical analysis and experimental research. Many SD2 files serve as SAS statistical data files. They also store experiment data such as reaction times and human‐computer interaction measurements, and some hold study data in the form of tab-separated values.
Details of use:
- SAS Statistical Data: Integrated in SAS environments for advanced analysis.
- Experiment Data: Contains measurements from controlled experiments.
- Study Data: Often organized as tab-separated records for research processing.
FilExt.com note: These files use internal formatting that supports complex computations and precise data management. To view or process an SD2 file, use dedicated statistical or conversion software rather than a general-purpose text editor.
How to open an SD2 file
You need a suitable software like SAS to open an SD2 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SD2 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SD2 file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- SAS
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SD2 files are often referred to as SAS data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

- Sound Designer II (Audio File) by Digidesign a Division of Avid Technology, Inc.Sound Designer is a Macintosh application. Sound Designer II files store all sound samples in the data fork and all sound parameters in the resource fork. Sound Designer II was discontinued several years ago, and is no longer available. Quicktime should play the files. The Mime types used with this association are: audio/x-sd2. This file format is classified as Audio. SD2 format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the SD2 files is as follows:
The SD2 file extension includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in SD2 files:
- 45% of all SD2 files start with the bytes SAS , which are crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. SD2 files are between 8 KB and 12 MB in size. The file type was used 20 years ago. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SAS 6, 00 WIN_95 4 and 6.12.00 WIN_95. A common filename is TIRES.SD2 or VEHICLE.SD2. These files are often associated with wrfj.
- 15% of all SD2 files have the same signature App,Participant,. These files contain text and words, not binary data. SD2 files are between 550 bytes and 4 KB in size. The keywords Block, Condition, Participant, Session, Group, Trials, ErrorRate, Characters, KSPC, Keystrokes, Speed and Time are typical for these files. A usual file name is FittsTouch-P01-S07-B01-G02-C01-1D.sd2. These files are attributed to task, keyboard, scale and soft.
The remaining 40% of all SD2 files are files with no common format, the following 4 formats exist: Participant and Block. These files are often connected to experiment, reaction, time, accident, orange, qwerty, sadman, sakib or opti. If you want to find out which format your SD2 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .sd2 file to view this image".

an sd2 data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SD2 files
- Associate the SD2 file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SD2 file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SAS update.
- To make sure that your SD2 file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SD2 file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
