What is a SIC file

SIC files mostly belong to zenon. SIC files are not a single type format; they come in two main variants that serve configuration purposes.
Compressed Simulation Configuration Files:

They use a ZIP internal file format.

They hold simulation settings and configuration data from software like those from zenon.

You can open these with any standard ZIP extractor and then load the settings in the simulation application.

They are encoded in UTF-16 (LE).

They store sitemap indexing or full-text search configuration data used by SimpleIndexer or SIMPLE-CONFIG tools.

How do you open SIC files?

You need a suitable software like zenon to open a SIC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. SIC file format:

To find out what program is needed to open SIC files, you need to determine the file format. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. 10% of all SIC files start with the bytes [Allgemein], which are crucial for this file format. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are on average 5 KB in size and range from 3 KB to 12 KB. 10% of all SIC files use the ZIP format, so several files are compressed and saved in one SIC file. Primarily 1 to 140 files are included. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. SIC files can be up to 11 MB in size, but are often around 32 KB - 10 MB.
