What is an SVD file

SVD files mostly belong to Unity3D. The SVD extension does not point to a single format. Instead, it is used in several fields.
For example, one common use is as a Unity game save file created using the .NET framework. These files store player progress, game state, and settings in Unity3D‐based games.
Another use is for the CMSIS System View Description in embedded development. These files are in XML format and describe a microcontroller’s registers and memory map so that development tools (such as Keil uVision) can aid in debugging. You can read more on this at ARM CMSIS.
Other SVD files include:

Synthesizer settings: Versions used for storing data like synthesizer patch files or sound variation data (found with instruments from Ketron, Roland, Yamaha, and others). More details are on Ketron or Roland Global.

Statistical data: These files can also hold StatView data used in statistical analysis.

Singular Value Decomposition data: In some cases the file holds output from matrix factorization methods.

Other specialized data: Such as GPS track data or simulation dumps (for example, system verilog value change dump files) used in very niche applications.

How to open SVD files

You need a suitable software like Unity3D to open an SVD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. SVD file format:

To find out what program is needed to open SVD files, you need to determine the file format. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Files with the SVD extension are quite widely used. This file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all SVD files are using the well-known .NET file format to store the data. The .NET format is used to save Microsoft .NET Framework objects to a file (ex. save game state as file) via object serialization. Such a .NET object may contain functions and data like settings, images or videos. The content also consists of readable text fragments, which can be viewed with the help of a text editor. Most of these files are 400 bytes to 590 bytes in size. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. The files contain the following words: FAssembly-CSharp, Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, SaveData, eventData, isEventOnce, rvWatched, userSoundMutePrefrence and showGameplayManualOnce. An example of a file name is ww.svd or gat.svd. Files like these are about music, river, rush, dash, gifts and mmwe.
• 10% of all SVD files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 AE 53 56 44 31 00 00. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 7 MB to 33 MB. The files contain the following words: BSTaXPS0, PATaXPS0, PRFbXPS0, RHYaXPS0, SCSaXPS0, SVD1, SYSaXPS0, VISaXPS0, WPFaXPS0, WVDaXPS0 and ~SPFbXPS0. A common filename is XPS10.SVD. These files are often associated with person-related data.

The remaining 70% of all SVD files are different files with different signatures, such as CMSIS System View Description format, Roland Fantom audio, DOC, ENTRY, SVD, SUPERVCD, TRACKSVD and SIMS.
