Opening an SX File
The SX file type is primarily associated with OpenOffice.
What is an SX file?
It may be used as a spreadsheet document by programs that package data using a compressed (ZIP) structure – similar to what you see with OpenOffice files.
How to open SX files
You need a suitable software like OpenOffice to open an SX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SX files:
- OpenOffice
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SX files are often referred to as OpenOffice data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- SAS (Stat Studio Program Source Code) by SAS Institute Inc.SAS delivers an integrated set of business intelligence software and services. This file format is classified as Source Code.
SX file extension format:
To view or edit SX files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the SX files:
SX is rarely used as a file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 35% of all SX files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "SLNG" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. SX files can be up to 280 KB in size, but are often around 740 bytes - 77 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. The following keywords are characteristic: SLNG. Files like these are sometimes connected to bolt and trigger.
- 15% of all SX files have the same signature 53 58 00 00. They consist of unreadable binary data. SX files can be up to 81 KB in size, but are often around 820 bytes - 8 KB.
All other SX files (50%) have different formats, such as ZIP and HREC. If you want to find out which format your SX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .sx file to analyze".
Technical Data for SX File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: SITEXP~1.EXE
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe /Open %L
an sx data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SX files
- Associate the SX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available OpenOffice update.
- To make sure that your SX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
