What is an SXM file?

SXM files mostly belong to Nanonis. SXM files are specialized data files used in scanning probe microscopy. They store measurements and image data collected from nanoscale surface scans.

15% of all SXM files start with the bytes 04 53 58 4D 31 00 00 00 crucial for this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 550 bytes to 4 KB in size, with a median of 2 KB. The files contain the following words: SXM1.
