Opening a TC File
The TC file type is primarily associated with TrueCrypt.
What is a TC file?
The TC file extension is used by several different applications. It does not refer to a single standard file type but rather to a variety of data files.
Below are some examples of what a TC file might be:
FilExt.com tips: The exact functionality depends on the application that created the file. If you are unsure about how to open your TC file, consider the source – for example, if it is a TrueCrypt volume, use TrueCrypt (or a compatible tool); if it is a test case file, a text or XML/JSON viewer might help. Checking the file’s contents with a simple text editor or a hex editor can also give clues to its internal format.
How to open TC files
You need a suitable software like TrueCrypt to open a TC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert TC files:
- TrueCrypt
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. TC files are often referred to as TrueCrypt data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Borland Configuration File by Borland Software Corporation
- Termcap
- True Crypt (Virtual Encrypted Disk (Container)) by TrueCrypt FoundationTrueCrypt is a software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device). On-the-fly encryption means that data are automatically encrypted or decrypted right before they are loaded or saved, without any user intervention. No data stored on an encrypted volume can be read without using the correct password or encryption key. Until decrypted, a TrueCrypt volume appears to be nothing more than a series of random numbers. The .TC file extension is associated with the TrueCrypt program but it is not required; these files can have any file extension or no file extension. The program does not care.
TC file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the TC files:
The TC file type is a very commonly used file extension and includes very many different file formats. The file formats most commonly found in TC files are:
- 15% of all TC files save the data in XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are on average 250 bytes in size and range from 240 bytes to 1 KB. The file type is a fairly new file format. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <TestCaseEntity>, name, <tag></tag>, <comment></comment>, <description></description> and testCaseGuid. Files like these have the following tags: login and verify.
- 8% of all TC files use the same file format, which have the signature 11 13 19 59. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 9 KB. The keywords Arial, SlideWrite Plus for Windows Version 3.00.53 and Slide Write are typical for these files.
The remaining 77% of all TC files are files with no common format, the following 15 formats can be found: TransCopy disk image, Turbo C Configuration, JSON, ivA, CTh and task. Sometimes used for stuff, work, important, iphone, data or apple. If you want to find out which format your TC file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .tc file to analyze".

How to solve problems with TC files
- Associate the TC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest TC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available TrueCrypt update.
- To make sure that your TC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .TC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
