What is a TCK file?

TCK files mostly belong to MRtrix3. TCK files serve several specialized functions. The most common use is as a TrackVis fiber file that stores fiber tractography data. The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below is our analysis of the TCK files:

TCK is seldom used as a file extension and includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 25% of all TCK files start with the bytes mrtrix tracks, which are crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 29 MB in size and range from 340 KB to 170 MB. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as mrtrix tracks, Float, angle, command_history, datatype, file and init. Examples of file names are tracks.tck. Such TCK files store data about tracts, brain, whole, fibers and left.
• 15% of all TCK files have the same signature 82 20 2C 20. These files are not pure binary files and are therefore readable and interpretable with a text editor. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 170 KB.
