What is a TI file?

TI files mostly belong to TerraIndex. TI files are not one single format but a label for several file types used in specific disciplines. The primary use is as a project data file by TerraIndex. In this form the file acts as a compressed container (often using a ZIP structure) to hold geotechnical data exchanged in engineering projects.
Other applications include:

How can I open a TI file?

You need a suitable software like TerraIndex to open a TI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TI file directly in the browser:. How to extract texts from TI files or capture a screenshot to PDF, JPG, DOCX, TXT, ...

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. TI is not a commonly used file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in TI files:

• 30% of all TI files save the data in JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The average file size is 120 KB with most files being between 20 KB and 540 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: {"type":2,"version":1} and EDCF. A common filename is -(1).ti.
• 15% of all TI files use ZIP compression, i.e. a TI file contains several compressed files. Such a ZIP file contains one file with names like export.xml. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. The files are on average 20 KB in size and range from 2 KB to 51 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: PrCode, PrID, PrName, VeldData, encoding, export.xml<?xml version="1.0", standalone, tblProjects and utf-8.
