All about MTGA Files
The MTGA file type is primarily associated with Unity.
What is an MTGA file
Most of these files use the UnityFS format, which means they are part of a Unity asset bundle system. These bundles package graphics, models, audio, and other elements that a game might need. See more details at Unity.
Some MTGA files use a JSON format to store game configuration and state data for Magic: The Gathering Arena.
How to open MTGA files
You need a suitable software like Unity to open an MTGA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MTGA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MTGA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert MTGA files:
- Unity
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. MTGA files are often referred to as Unity games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Homeworld by Sierra Entertainment, Inc.
MTGA file format:
To view or edit MTGA files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the MTGA files:
MTGA is not a commonly used file extension and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The following file formats are most commonly found in MTGA files:
- 75% of all MTGA files are based on the popular UnityFS file format. UnityFS is short for "Unity File System". This Unity Game Engine package is a bundle of several compressed Unity assets. Each asset may contain 2D texture, text resources, music files, scene objects, etc. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. MTGA files can be up to 44 MB in size, but are often around 85 KB - 1 MB. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. UnityFS, `.resS and 2020.3.13f1. The file name 001837_CardArt_67ca5f34-ebd957318743defdffabc35cec52b5c6.mtga or 001837_cardart_93b131b498b4c6ca8fcd92bd49edb08a.mtga is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to card, cardart, defdffabc, bucket, battlefield, textures, scene and efda.
- 10% of all MTGA files are based on the well-known JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. MTGA files can be up to 16 MB in size, but are often around 39 KB - 7 MB. The files contain the following words: "id": 1 and text. Such files sometimes refer to data and abilities.
The remaining 15% of all MTGA files are files with no common format, often, for example, SQL and AKPK. They are often associated with database, manifest, atlas, printings, ability, credits, texture, prefab, sleeve, asset or badge. You can get all the details of your MTGA file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .mtga file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for MTGA File Extension
an mtga game asset is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with MTGA files
- Associate the MTGA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open game assets. Because only the current version supports the latest MTGA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Unity update.
- To make sure that your MTGA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .MTGA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
