TIM file format details:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the TIM files produces the following result:
TIM is a very widely used file extension. The file type includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 45% of all TIM files are associated with PSX TIM 8bpp bitmap. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 18 KB to 170 KB in size, with a median of 87 KB. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. Such files sometimes refer to image, title, warning, face, stmain, eidos, filei and died.
- 20% of all TIM files belong to PSX TIM 4bpp bitmap. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 1 KB to 33 KB in size. These files can be linked to font, fontst, sony, radar, carback, sysfnt, back, core and togi.
All other TIM files (35%) have different formats, frequently e.g. PSX TIM 16bpp bitmap, RPC III, PSX TIM 4bpp bitmap, PSX TIM 24bpp bitmap, Vixen 3 Timed sequence, Monthly, IRUY and TIM. These files are often connected to lucene, index, config, continue, taisen, icon or snap. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your TIM file!

- To make sure that your TIM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
