What is a UCF file?

UCF files mostly belong to WebEx by Cisco. A UCF file contains media data shared between participants during a meeting session on WebEx video conferencing platform. The UCF file is saved in Universal Communications Format which is used to display rich media such as documents, video/audio recordings, presentations, and spreadsheets. Another type of UCF file is a macro used to automate processes in Statistica data analysis software. UCF is also the filename extension of the configuration data file for workspace variables used by MicroStation CAD and GIS software. WAsP wind turbine resource assessment and yield calculation software suite uses a UCF file to store wind speed/direction correction factors.

How to open a UCF file

You need a suitable software like WebEx to open a UCF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UCF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UCF file directly in the browser:. The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. The UCF file type is a very commonly used file extension and is primarily used by a single program. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 80% of all UCF files are Universal Communications Format files. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. UCF files are between 1 KB and 1 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: WPDF. Examples of file names are Whiteboard.ucf. Files like these are sometimes connected to page, webinar, presentation, lesson, online, cisco, week, transformation, introduction, assessment, sentences, strategic, project, resume, slides, board, group and notes.
• 5% of all UCF files use the same file format, which have the signature ::UCFFile::. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. UCF files can be up to 3 MB in size, but are often around 27 KB - 2 MB. The keywords ::UCFFile, DeviceID=0, UUID and TYPE=13 are typical for these files. An example of a file name is PARAM.UCF.
