Opening a UCS File
The UCS file type is primarily associated with F5 Big-IP.
What is a UCS file?
How do you open UCS files?
You need a suitable software like F5 Big-IP to open a UCS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UCS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UCS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- F5 Big-IP
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. UCS files are often referred to as F5 Big-IP backups because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

UCS format details:
To find out what program is needed to open UCS files, you need to determine the file format. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the UCS files:
The UCS file ending covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 60% of all UCS files are based on the popular GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 640 KB to 21 MB in size, with a median of 4 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The following keywords are characteristic: configsync-2, 0-1-Linux-2 and 0-1-Linux-3. Such files are related to backup, config, touchngo, lgcare, bigip, daily and local.
- 25% of all UCS files store the data in the UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 7 KB to 8 MB in size, with a median of 680 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. %1X%.%2Y%. The file name RelicCoH2.English.ucs or RTPatchInstallWrapper.ucs is typical for these files. Such UCS files store data about english, relic, install, rtpatch, wrapper, graphics, chinese, options, utility and trad.
All other UCS files (15%) have different formats, often e.g. DOC and ZIP. Files like these are sometimes linked to case or intl. If you want to find out which format your UCS file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ucs file to analyze".

How to solve problems with UCS files
- Associate the UCS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open specialized containers. Because only the current version supports the latest UCS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available F5 Big-IP update.
- To make sure that your UCS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .UCS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
