What is a VP file?

VP files mostly belong to Celestia by Chris Laurel. VP extension is used by files containing vertex programs created with OpenGL technology. The raw contents of such VP files are ASCII text written in Assembly programming language syntax and used to define the display properties of vertexes for a 3D model. 3D Studio, the predecessor of 3DS Max used VP file extension to store video posting files. VP is also used as a file extension for storing encrypted Verilog source code of electronic systems models. How to open VP files

You need a suitable software like Celestia to open a VP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened.
