What is a WFX file?

WFX files mostly belong to Daktronics Venus. The WFX file is not a single standardized format. Instead, it refers to files that can serve different roles depending on the internal data structure.
For example, one kind of WFX file uses a ZIP container and is an animation file used as a content package for display systems, managed by software such as Daktronics Venus Control Software.
Another type uses an XML structure to store point‐of‐sale workflow data, which is used in systems from Aronium Point of Sale. You can find more details on their website at Aronium.
A third variety is built on the EXE format and functions as a plugin for Windows File Explorer. This executable type is used by file system plugins in programs like Total Commander (GHISLER).

How to open WFX files

You need a suitable software like Daktronics Venus to open a WFX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WFX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WFX file directly in the browser:. WFX file format details:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the WFX files produces the following result:

The WFX file extension is not common and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in WFX files:

• 25% of all WFX files use ZIP compression, the WFX file contains a number of compressed files. The number of files included is on average 6 and ranges from 5 to 6. Customary file names are metaFileData.json, sequenceAnimation.json and sequenceStill.json. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. A typical file size is 2 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. "metaFileData": {, Description, fileName and metaFileData.json.
• 25% of all WFX files are using the well-known XML file format to store the data. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. WFX files can be up to 26 KB in size, but are often around 3 KB - 20 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, Aronium, Name, <Workflow xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> and <Variables />. Some examples of file names are Aronium.Pos.Bootstrap.wfx or Aronium.Pos.wfx. Files like these have the following tags: bootstrap, authorization, invoices and payment.
