What is an XGM file?

XGM files mostly belong to Game engine. Your XGM file is most often a game asset file used in 3D video games. It is generally recognized as an Xtreme Game Model that stores data for 3D models such as geometry, textures, and sometimes animation data.

• 3D Game Model: This variant is used in game development. It is best viewed with a dedicated game engine or 3D model viewer that can interpret specialized binary data.
• Oracle Gateway Mapping: A less common form of XGM uses XML. It serves as a mapping file for Oracle Gateway systems and can be opened in any text or XML editor.

How to open an XGM file

You need a suitable software like Game engine to open an XGM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XGM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XGM file directly in the browser:. To view or edit XGM files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. The XGM file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a defined XGM format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 75% of all XGM files start with the bytes 15 00, which are crucial for this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 44 KB with most files being between 8 KB and 260 KB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. XGSM$. The following filename is common: ball_0.xgm or body_0_1.xgm. Such files sometimes refer to trophy, head, corner, hair, shadow, torso, player and select.
• 5% of all XGM files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. XGM files are between 20 KB and 410 KB in size.
