What is an XSB file?

XSB files mostly belong to XACT. Usage of XSB Files:

Sound Bank Format: The most common XSB files store sound bank data. They contain audio samples, settings, and metadata used in game audio projects. Tools from Microsoft, such as the XACT Sound Bank Editor, handle these files. More information is available at Microsoft Developer.

How can I open an XSB file?

You need a suitable software like XACT to open an XSB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. XSB file extension format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. The XSB extension is quite commonly used. The file itself includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in XSB files are:

• 60% of all XSB files belong to XACT Sound Bank. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 320 bytes to 29 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SDBK and Sound. Sound Bank.xsb or SoundBank.xsb is a typical file name. These files are often associated with sound, bank, music, sounds, voice, inid, escatos and cues.
• 15% of all XSB files start with the bytes Úzº¾ crucial for this file format. The content consists of binary data as well as text and words. The average file size is 200 bytes with most files being between 65 bytes and 1 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: system, _BI_anyType, apache, xmlbeans and impl. The following filename is common: index.xsb. Files like these are sometimes connected to type, doctype, elemtype, response, request and document.
