All about XSIG Files
The XSIG file type is primarily associated with AutoFirma.
What is an XSIG file?
They contain cryptographic data such as hash values, certificate references, and signature elements defined by the XML Signature standard.
Typical roles include:
How to open an XSIG file
You need a suitable software like AutoFirma to open an XSIG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XSIG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XSIG file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert XSIG files:
- AutoFirma
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. XSIG files are often referred to as AutoFirma data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Digital Signature ApplicationsAn .XSIG file is a digital signature file format primarily associated with XML documents. It contains data used to verify the authenticity and integrity of the signed XML content, ensuring it hasn't been tampered with. The signature itself is often based on cryptographic algorithms and includes information such as the signer's identity, a timestamp, and the hash of the original data. While predominantly used with XML, the .XSIG extension might also be encountered with other document types, like PDFs, in specific digital signature implementations. This file format is classified as Digital Signature File.
XSIG file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the XSIG files looks like this:
You will often come across the XSIG file type. This predominantly uses a uniform format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 85% of all XSIG files are associated with XML Signature files, which internally utilize the well-known XML format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The file size is in the range of 11 KB to 440 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: facturae, http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, Facturae xmlns and FileHeader. Files like these are about signed, regage, factura, emit, solicitud, firma, firmado, formulario and facturae.
- 10% of all XSIG files are based on the well-known XML file format. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. XSIG files can be up to 4 MB in size, but are often around 97 KB - 3 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <Portafirmas><documentoOriginal Encoding="base64", MimeType, application, indra, nombreFichero, octet-stream and JVBERi0xLjQKJcOkw7zDtsOfCjIgMCBvYmoKPDwvTG. Documento_XSIG.xsig is a typical file name. Such XSIG files store data about expediente, carta, documento, convalidacio and convalidaci.
All other XSIG files (5%) have no consistent format, the following 4 formats exist: PDF and AFIRMA. Files like these are sometimes linked to xades, prov, rect, orden, memoria, disposicion, puesta, comun, contr, menor, secre, acta or docx. Just click the "Choose your .xsig file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your XSIG file is.
Technical Data for XSIG File Extension
an xsig digital signature file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with XSIG files
- Associate the XSIG file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open digital signature files. Because only the current version supports the latest XSIG file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available AutoFirma update.
- To make sure that your XSIG file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .XSIG file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
