Opening YLD Files
The YLD file type is primarily associated with OpenIV.
What is a YLD file?
Some YLD files contain yield curve data in a binary format for financial analysis. This type of file is used to record interest rate trends and may also appear in contexts such as the Sword of the Stars series. For more information, you can check the US Treasury webpage.
Other YLD variants work with computer-aided design. These files hold plotter data that AutoCAD and similar programs (like YLD Viewer, Solid Edge Draft, or Creo Elements/Pro) can open and use for drafting layouts.
- Game resource: Contains 3D models and assets.
- Financial data: Stores binary yield curve information.
- CAD plot file: Holds layout data for drawing and plotting.
FilExt.com tip: Identifying the source of your YLD file is key to choosing the right software to view it.
How to open a YLD file
You need a suitable software like OpenIV to open a YLD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your YLD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a YLD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert YLD files:
- OpenIV
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. YLD files are often referred to as OpenIV games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- SMS (Yield Monitor Data File) by Ag Leader Technology, Inc.Data file used by agricultural yield monitors and mapping software. The file contains GPS and yield information for measured areas.
YLD file format:
To find out what program is needed to open YLD files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the YLD files is as follows:
The YLD file extension is not found very often and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 60% of all YLD files use the same file format, which have the signature RSC. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The average file size is 13 KB with most files being between 7 KB and 25 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. The files contain the following words: RSC7. The file name uppr_000_u.yld is typical for these files. Such files sometimes refer to uppr, freemode, accs, coat, task, player, hair, creativyx, open and zero.
- 9% of all YLD files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "9C FF" at the beginning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 1 MB. An example of a file name is 20180601.YLD.
All other YLD files (31%) have different formats, often e.g. RDFILEVER. They are often associated with data, batman, micahbell, beach or berd. If you want to find out which format your YLD file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .yld file to analyze".
Technical Data for YLD File Extension
a yld game resource archive file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with YLD files
- Associate the YLD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open game resource archive files. Because only the current version supports the latest YLD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available OpenIV update.
- To make sure that your YLD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
