What is an ATP file?

ATP files mostly belong to TurningPoint. ATP files are data containers used by various software systems. They do not have a single standard design but instead come in different internal formats that match their use.
When you see an ATP file, it is likely one of the following types:

• Polling Data Files: These files store poll session or audience response data. Some use UTF-16 (LE) or XML encoding. For example, files created by PresenterMedia for TurningPoint sessions or by WebEx Meetings (see PresenterMedia and WebEx) follow this pattern.
• Game Modification and Animation Packs: In some cases, an ATP file is a ZIP archive containing an Animation Text Pack format. This is common in mods for games like Friday Night Funkin', where the file supports the Psych Engine.
• Audio Track Files: Some ATP files are simply MP3 audio tracks, used as standalone media.
• Player and Sports Data Files: Other instances include files holding player statistics for sports games, such as football or tennis data from companies like Pro Evolution Soccer or ATP Tour Tennis Data.
• Automation and Testing Files: A few ATP files serve as test automation or preset files (sometimes encoded in XML), used in specific applications like those from Prima Test Automation or Ableton Live.

Each file’s function depends on the originating software. The internal structure—whether it is ZIP, XML, or MP3—provides clues on how to open and view it.

How to open an ATP file

You need a suitable software like TurningPoint to open an ATP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ATP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ATP file directly in the browser:. ATP file format:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. The ATP extension is very commonly found and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in ATP files:

• 45% of all ATP files are Webex Poll files, which are based on the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 680 bytes and 6 KB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The keywords <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>, NOANSWER, named and <POLL TYPE="anonymous" SHOWTIMER="yes" ALARM="5:0" NOANSWE are typical for these files. Examples of file names are Poll.atp. These files are attributed to questions, sondaggio, session, question, polling, slide, survey, umfrage and random.
• 30% of all ATP files are based on the zip format, so several files are combined and compressed into one ATP file. The number of files included is on average 15 and ranges from 8 to 40. File names inside are always logo.png, manifest.xml, meta.txt and translate_en.xml. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. ATP files are between 900 KB and 32 MB in size. The keywords items/PK are typical for these files. These files are often associated with pack, demo, sussyroblox, impostorrig, fatalcube, impostorseries, countryballs and impostor.

The remaining 25% of all ATP files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. ATRAC encoded audio, XML, SQL, pta, PESERTA, Definition and BEGIN. Files like these are sometimes linked to lesson, madnesscombat, track, basicpack, sonic, impostorfinalver, feedback, results or quiz.
