What is a CAS file?

CAS files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. The CAS extension is primarily associated with 3D models used by games such as Total War, a Windows-based strategy game. Such CAS files comprise game objects, buildings, and texturing data for the models. The license files containing information for validating the copies of Autodesk software such as AutoCAD also have CAS file extension. These licenses are typically named CascadeInfo.cas and are located in the /ADLM/ or /Adlm/.config/ folder of the program's installation directory. Borland, an integrated development environment for Windows operating system stores source code for its C++ and Assembly programming languages in CAS files. BitDefender, a Windows antivirus program stores some of its internal data in CAS files.

How to open a CAS file

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open a CAS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CAS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CAS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

FLUENT is a modelling software used to design and visualize industrial equipment and operations such as heat transfer, turbulence, and airflow used for a spectrum of flow modeling applications and industries. The CAS file used by FLUENT contain case data. This file format is classified as 3D Image.
  6. i2's Analyst's Notebook (timeline analysis) by IBM
i2 Analyst's Notebook is a data visualization and analysis software with capabilities for multidimensional visual analysis allowing analysts to uncover hidden patterns and connections in pieces of data. This software is typically used to investigate or detect fraud. CAS files created with i2 Analyst's Notebook contain timeline analysis. This file format is classified as Data.
  7. Quest (compiled adventure game) by Alex Warren

  8. TV-Computer (tape) by Videoton
TV-Computer were 8-bit computers developed in the 1980s. The CAS files used by these computers contain data recorded from cassettes which used the TV-Computer for data storage. Such CAS files may be accessed with TV-Computer emulators and were transferable back to the tape. This file format is classified as Data.

CAS file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the CAS files:

The CAS file type is a very commonly used file extension and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in CAS files:

All other CAS files (85%) have no consistent format, such as Frostbite Container of ASsets, Fluent case, MSX Cassette tape image, Quest adventure, zlib, TOI, FUJI and UUUUUUUUUUU. These files are often connected to attack, setup, peasant, cassyr, female, general or greek. Just click the "Choose your .cas file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your CAS file is.

How to solve problems with CAS files

  • Associate the CAS file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open cascade license data files. Because only the current version supports the latest CAS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Autodesk manufacturer website after an available AutoCAD update.
  • To make sure that your CAS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .CAS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
