Opening CED Files
The CED file type is primarily associated with iMovie.
What is a CED file?
How can I open a CED file?
You need a suitable software like iMovie to open a CED file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CED file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CED file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert CED files:
- iMovie by Apple
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. CED files are often referred to as iMovie videos because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- EEGLAB (channel data) by SCCNEEGLAB is a toolkit for processing electrophysiological signals within MATLAB. It supports the processing of magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG). The CED file created by EEGLAB contains channel data. This file format is classified as Data.
- VisionTools (user interface configuration) by CrestronVisionTools is a program for designing touchscreen graphical user interfaces for Crestron products. VisionTools stores (configuration) definition data used by its Smart Graphics utility in CED files. This file format is classified as Settings.
CED file format:
To find out what program is needed to open CED files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the CED files produces the following result:
CED is not a common file extension and predominantly uses a uniform format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 90% of all CED files have the same signature JSED0001. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are often between 500 bytes and 36 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as JSED0001 and EXTH. Some examples of file names are 00000.CED or 00001.CED.
- 7% of all CED files start with the magic bytes 19 00 01 00 50 00 00 00 04 03, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 850 bytes and 900 bytes in size.
All other CED files (3%) have no uniform format, the following 3 formats can be found: EEGLAB Channel Data. Tagged as standard. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CED file!
Technical Data for CED File Extension
a ced corrupted video is a special file format by Apple and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CED files
- Associate the CED file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open corrupted videos. Because only the current version supports the latest CED file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Apple manufacturer website after an available iMovie update.
- To make sure that your CED file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CED file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
