CKP is seldom used as a file extension and includes very many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 15% of all CKP files start with the magic bytes 2E 2F 00 00 00 00 00 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 10 KB. The keywords 0000000, 00000000000 and 0000700 are typical for these files.
• 8% of all CKP files have the same signature ?×l. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 80 bytes to 88 bytes in size. The following filename is common: translog.ckp.

All other CKP files (77%) have no consistent format, often, for example, Java, PRJ and CKP. They are often associated with model, checkpointdb, restore, chest, project or tester.
