What is a DFA file

DFA files mostly belong to Defraggler. Your DFA file may not be what you expect. It can be a container for different types of data.

One kind stores a Deterministic Finite Automaton using a Microsoft Compound format. In this case, it is an Automation Studio data file used in processes that work with state machines.

Another kind holds a Powersoft DSP preset in a .NET based structure. This file contains settings for audio devices.

A third type is a compressed image file built as a ZIP archive. Such files are used for CAD by storing a zipped DFA CAD file.

How to open DFA files

You need a suitable software like Defraggler to open a DFA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DFA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DFA file directly in the browser:. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below you will find our evaluation of the DFA files:

DFA is not a common file extension and includes many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 10% of all DFA files use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 36 KB to 1 MB.
• 10% of all DFA files internally utilize the .NET file format. The .NET format is used to save Microsoft .NET Framework objects to a file (ex. save game state as file) via object serialization. Such a .NET object may contain functions and data like settings, images or videos. The content also consists of readable text fragments, which can be viewed with the help of a text editor. The files are 100 KB to 250 KB in size, with a median of 130 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, JSerializeLib, SerializeLib.sFileInfo, uFileVersion, uModel and uPanelType.
