What is a DFS file?

DFS files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. AutoCAD, a 3D modelling software mainly used by architects and civil engineers uses DFS file extension to store utility defaults data. DFS file extension is also used by 3D surface files created using the proprietary 3D image format of BrainSuite, an MRI software for visualizing the human brain. A BrainSuite DFS file consists of vertices and triangles that make up the scanned brain surface data. Swirlque, a Windows-based software for generating animated graphical patterns stores data and parameters in DFS files. How to open DFS files

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open a DFS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. 25% of all DFS files are Area 51 game data archive files. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 5 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SFDX. A usual file name is audio1.DFS.
15% of all DFS files start with the magic bytes DFS_, which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are 310 KB to 13 MB in size, with a median of 11 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: DFS_LE v2.0. Such files sometimes refer to cortex and pial.
