Opening an EASM File
The EASM file type is primarily associated with eDrawings.
What is an EASM file?
How to open an EASM file
You need a suitable software like eDrawings to open an EASM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EASM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EASM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert EASM files:
- eDrawings by SolidWorks
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. EASM files are often referred to as eDrawings cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- AutoCAD (assembly model) by AutodeskAutoCAD is a professional computer-aided design program which is mainly used for architectural design and modeling. By using eDrawings plugin, AutoCAD can import, open, and edit a 2D or 3D assembly saved in an EASM file. This file format is classified as CAD.
- eDrawings Viewer (assembly model) by SolidWorkseDrawings Viewer is a free program used to review and collaborate on 2D and 3D CAD drawing projects. It can open and display a product assembly model created by eDrawings and saved in an EASM file. This file format is classified as CAD.
EASM file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the EASM files is as follows:
The EASM file ending includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in EASM files are:
- 60% of all EASM files are associated with eDrawings part. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. A typical file size is 2 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The following keywords are characteristic: 2008+ archive and eModel. These files are attributed to assembly, assy, gantry, saturn, scale, master, machine, layout, module, piping, assem and tube.
- 35% of all EASM files use ZIP compression, so several files are combined and compressed into one EASM file. A typical number of included files is 5. Common included file names are OLE, eModel, materials.xml, preview.jpg and scene.xml. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The average file size is 2 MB with most files being between 58 KB and 22 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. eModel. Files like these are sometimes connected to concept and frame.
All other EASM files (5%) have no consistent format, frequently e.g. HSF. These files sometimes refer to general. If you want to find out which format your EASM file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .easm file to analyze".

an easm assembly model is a special file format by SolidWorks and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with EASM files
- Associate the EASM file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open assembly models. Because only the current version supports the latest EASM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the SolidWorks manufacturer website after an available eDrawings update.
- To make sure that your EASM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .EASM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
