FFU files mostly belong to DISM by Microsoft. An FFU file contains a signed operating system image for flashing or updating devices such as Raspberry single-board computers and smartphones in the Lumia and Windows Phone family. Disk images for Windows 10 IoT edition are usually distributed as FFU files. It contains a whole operating system or updated packages that can be applied to the operating system. How can I open an FFU file?

You need a suitable software like DISM to open an FFU file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The files are often between 91 KB and 6 MB in size. Some examples of file names are advfont.ffu. These files are attributed to hynix.
