What is an FM3 file?

FM3 files mostly belong to Lotus 1-2-3. Lotus 1-2-3 Spreadsheet files with the FM3 extension file primarily store spreadsheet data. They hold rows, columns, formulas, and cell formats used in older spreadsheet programs.
Primary use:
some of FM3 files are created by Lotus 1-2-3. This means the file is meant to work as a legacy spreadsheet document for data calculation and analysis.
Alternative use:

How to open FM3 files

You need a suitable software like Lotus 1-2-3 to open an FM3 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. FM3 file format details:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. The FM3 file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a defined FM3 format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 85% of all FM3 files start with the bytes 00 00 1A 00 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. FM3 files are between 390 bytes and 15 KB in size. The file type was used 20 years ago. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SWISS, DUTCH, XSYM and Arial.
• 5% of all FM3 files have the same signature 50 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 55 6E 69 6F 6E 4C 61 62. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. FM3 files can be up to 150 KB in size, but are often around 190 bytes - 61 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as UnionLabel3ByOutlet and layout.
