Opening an FRA File
The FRA file type is primarily associated with Unreal Engine.
What is an FRA file
In one common case, the file is encoded in UTF-16 (LE) and is used as a game configuration file by engines such as Unreal Engine. This version may include data for game settings or localization text.
In another case, the file is encoded in UTF-8 and works as a frame assembly file in programs like Creo Parametric, holding the information needed for animation frame data. More details for such uses are available at PTC.
Common uses include:
How to open an FRA file
You need a suitable software like Unreal Engine to open an FRA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FRA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FRA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert FRA files:
- Unreal Engine
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FRA files are often referred to as Unreal Engine games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Fifa World Cup Game Data fe Art Legalscr File
- Fractal Explorer
- FractintUntil version 14, Fractint saved images as .FRA files, which were a non-standard extension of the then-current GIF87a specification. Information after the GIF terminator (which is where the extra info was placed) has the potential to confuse some GIF viewers. It was the opinion of some GIF developers that the addition of this extra information violated the GIF87a specification which is why the default filetype .FRA was defined. This file format is classified as Graphic.

- Personal Paint (French Language User Interface File) by AmigaThis is a file of the form: UITEXT.xxx where the file extension denotes the language the user interface should appear in. It is used by Amiga programs which can change their user interface. Personal Paint is one; ColorType, Personal Fonts Maker 2 and Personal Write are others. Related links: Amiga Forever
FRA file format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the FRA files comes to the following conclusion:
The FRA file extension is not widely used. Such a file is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 25% of all FRA files internally utilize the UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 2 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Such FRA files store data about batman and notes.
- 10% of all FRA files are based on the popular UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are 180 KB to 24 MB in size, with a median of 9 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. MaFrame 0, Model, Number of parts, Part, 000000000000e, Users and Number of frames: 101. A common filename is Animation1.fra or Animation2.fra.
All other FRA files (65%) have different formats, the following 5 formats exist: XML, General and FORM. Sometimes used for subtitles or machine. You can get all the details of your FRA file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .fra file to view" above.
Technical Data for FRA File Extension
an fra text file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with FRA files
- Associate the FRA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open text files. Because only the current version supports the latest FRA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Unreal Engine update.
- To make sure that your FRA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FRA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
