What is an FWS file?

FWS files mostly belong to Firewall Studio. An FWS file is not limited to one type of use; it is a file extension applied to several kinds of files.

How to open an FWS file

You need a suitable software like Firewall Studio to open an FWS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FWS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FWS file directly in the browser:. FWS file extension format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the FWS files produces the following result:

FWS is rarely used as a file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 50% of all FWS files start with the bytes FWS crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. FWS files are between 55 KB and 4 MB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Examples of file names are 00000000.fws or 00000002.fws.
• 7% of all FWS files are based on the zip format, multiple files are compressed and combined into one FWS file. A typical number of included files is 182. File names inside are ws.xml, \properties\ and \session\. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are 2 MB to 15 MB in size, with a median of 15 MB. The files contain the following words: att/PK. Examples of file names are FAO_FI_Global_Production_2020-06-01.fws. Such files sometimes refer to global and production.
