What is a G2A file

G2A files mostly belong to GE Intelligent Platforms. G2A files can have two distinct uses.
The most common type is an alarm log file generated by systems from GE Intelligent Platforms. This file stores records of system alarms, including timestamps and event details, which help in system diagnostics and monitoring. It is designed for use with proprietary software that reads and analyzes these logs.
Another type of G2A file contains session data for online meetings, such as those used in GoToMeeting and GoAnywhere Gateway sessions. This file records details like session activities and user interactions.

Identify the file by checking its header or metadata.

Open the file using the vendor’s specific viewer or processing software.

If the data appears unreadable in a text editor, it may be in binary format.

How do you open G2A files?

You need a suitable software like GE Intelligent Platforms to open a G2A file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. G2A file format details:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the G2A files is as follows:

G2A is not a common file extension and mainly uses a defined G2A format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 80% of all G2A files start with the magic bytes G2A, which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are often between 960 bytes and 110 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ALARM. Some examples of file names are AAM00001.G2A or ALARMHST.G2A. Files like these are sometimes connected to alarm, history, alarms, record and data.
• 10% of all G2A files use the same file format, which have the signature 01 01 00 00. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. G2A files are between 2 MB and 52 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: KeyInfo, SessionId, long, member, name, struct, value and HistInfo. Files like these are about session.
