The GMT file type is primarily associated with rFactor.
What is a GMT file?
How do you open GMT files?
You need a suitable software like rFactor to open a GMT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GMT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GMT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

GMT format details:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the GMT files looks like this:
The GMT file type is a very commonly used file extension and covers a large number of different file formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 10% of all GMT files start with the bytes GSGT crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 12 KB to 100 KB in size, with a median of 100 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The keywords GSGT are typical for these files. A common filename is face.gmt. Such files sometimes refer to smartphone, kiryu and pause.
- 7% of all GMT files start with the magic bytes GO, which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. A typical file size is 5 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as http, cards, gsea, msigdb and REGULATION. The following filename is common: hsapiens.GO_BP.name.gmt. Such files are related to symbols, name, biological, mmusculus, process, geneontology and entrezgene.
The remaining 83% of all GMT files are files with no common format, the following 17 formats can be found: DOC, shell script, HALLMARK, KEGG, AAANWWTGC, BIOCARTA, bereich, chr, THIO and GLI. These files are often connected to kegg, mouse, gene, pathway, human, pathways or entrez. If you want to find out what your GMT file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
