Opening an LMP File
The LMP file type is primarily associated with Doom.
What is an LMP file
How can I open an LMP file?
You need a suitable software like Doom to open an LMP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LMP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LMP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

LMP file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the LMP files looks like this:
LMP is a very commonly used file extension and covers a large number of different file formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 9% of all LMP files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "ðKartReplay" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 200 KB. The file type was created recently. The keywords KartReplay, PLAY, ZONE, bonuschars.kart and Attack are typical for these files. Such files sometimes refer to zone, best, time, vanilla, flicky, guest, karttm, server and kart.
- 8% of all LMP files start with the magic bytes 6D 03, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 1 KB to 29 KB in size. These files can be linked to doom.
The remaining 83% of all LMP files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. Sonic Robo Blast 2 replay/demo, XML, ACS and ACEGIKMO. Sometimes used for palette, dust, battalions, stcfn, weapons, breach or office. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your LMP file!

How to solve problems with LMP files
- Associate the LMP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open graphics or recorded demos. Because only the current version supports the latest LMP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the id manufacturer website after an available Doom update.
- To make sure that your LMP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
