LMP files mostly belong to Doom by id. LMP is the filename extension of a lump file containing resources used by games built on top of Quake engine and Doom engine. A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. 8% of all LMP files start with the magic bytes 6D 03, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 1 KB to 29 KB in size. These files can be linked to doom.

The remaining 83% of all LMP files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. Sonic Robo Blast 2 replay/demo, XML, ACS and ACEGIKMO.
