All about PTE Files
The PTE file type is primarily associated with Pile Driving Analyzer.
What is a PTE file?
Pile Integrity Test data files are produced by Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) software. They hold measurement data from pile load tests and are used in geotechnical evaluation.
PCB design files created via ProTool (and related to Automation Studio) store electronic layout information. These files organize circuit and component details for printed circuit board projects.
PicturesToExe slideshow project files, which use UTF-8 encoding, save project settings, images, and transition data for creating slide presentations. For more details on these projects, visit the official page.
FilExt.com note: Although all these files share the PTE extension, each type has a unique internal structure that requires its specific software to open and view.
How do you open PTE files?
You need a suitable software like Pile Driving Analyzer to open a PTE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PTE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PTE file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PTE format details:
To find out what program is needed to open PTE files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the PTE files is as follows:
The PTE file extension is not found very often and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in PTE files:
- 25% of all PTE files have the same signature 00 01 00 00. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The file size is in the range of 8 KB to 170 KB. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: PITE and 1, 5, 12, 3. Files like these are sometimes connected to pile.
- 8% of all PTE files are based on the popular UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The average file size is 98 KB with most files being between 25 KB and 830 KB in size. The keywords [Main], globalversion=1, PteVersion, type=save, filetype=Project file of PicturesToExe, minorversion=33, CreationTool=PicturesToExe Deluxe, opt_scr_height=1080 and opt_scr_width=1920 are typical for these files. Such PTE files store data about project.
The remaining 67% of all PTE files are different files with different signatures. Sometimes used for body, session, dialog, icon, yildizlar, memories or horse. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your PTE file!

How to solve problems with PTE files
- Associate the PTE file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest PTE file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Pile Driving Analyzer update.
- To make sure that your PTE file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PTE file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
