Opening an RBS File
The RBS file type is primarily associated with SketchUp.
What is an RBS file?
How to open RBS files
You need a suitable software like SketchUp to open an RBS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RBS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RBS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert RBS files:
- SketchUp
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. RBS files are often referred to as SketchUp developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- RealiMation 3D Object
- ReBirth (Song) by Propellerhead SoftwareThe identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: 43 41 54 20 00 00, ASCII: CAT, Hex (position 8): 52 42 34 30 48 45 41 44 00 00 01 00 5B 54 5B 54 BC 04, ASCII: RB40HEAD.
- Rollback (Script) by Microsoft CorporationWindows Installer accomplishes rollback by creating a rollback script. A rollback script is a file that contains a linear sequence of operations to perform, such as file and registry updates, configuration information updates, user interface notifications, and state information for other operations. Each operation recorded in the rollback script is a direct response to an operation in the installation script. Rollback scripts are stored in binary format. This improves efficiency, avoids the need for parsing the file, and discourages manual editing of the file. Rollback script files (.RBS and .RBF) are backups of existing files. Files with an .RBS file extension are rollback script files, and files with an .RBF file extension are backups of existing files. Both are stored in hidden folders called Config.msi. The Config.msi folders are created when the Msiexec.exe file starts copying from the installation point. The rollback script file (.RBS) is always stored in the Config.msi folder on the disk where the operating system is installed. The .RBF files are stored in the Config.msi folder on the disk where the program that is being backed up currently resides. This is done so that there is no crossing of disks when the program files are being backed up. All rollback files and the Config.msi folders are deleted when the installation completes successfully.

RBS file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the RBS files comes to the following conclusion:
The file type with the extension 'RBS' includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 35% of all RBS files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "RBS1.0" at the beginning. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are often between 2 KB and 170 KB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The keywords RBS1.0 are typical for these files. An example of a file name is InstantRoof.rbs. Such RBS files store data about instant, roof, medeek, license, dibac, truss and road.
- 30% of all RBS files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "04 40 00 00" at the beginning. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. RBS files are between 39 KB and 16 MB in size.
The remaining 35% of all RBS files are different files with different signatures, such as Propellerhead Software ReBirth Song, DOC, UTCRBES and IXOS. Tagged as events, normal, deferred, cost or realtime. If you want to find out what your RBS file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for RBS File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Reflection\r1win.exe /rbs %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\PROPEL~1\REBIRT~1.0DE\Rebirth.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\rebirth2\AUDIO\REBIRT~1.0\Rebirth.exe
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Reflection\nooprbs.exe
an rbs script file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RBS files
- Associate the RBS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open script files. Because only the current version supports the latest RBS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SketchUp update.
- To make sure that your RBS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RBS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
