What is a THP file?

THP files mostly belong to THPViewer. THP files are most widely recognized as a container format for video and audio data used on the Nintendo GameCube. They store in-game cinematics and other video sequences that require special decoding.

GameCube Video: This use case involves video streams synchronized with audio. THPFlowPlayer and THPViewer are examples of specialized tools designed to work with this format.

360-Degree Photo Data: A smaller set of THP files are used in camera raw applications to store immersive photo information.

How to open a THP file

You need a suitable software like THPViewer to open a THP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your THP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a THP file directly in the browser:. How to convert a THP file to MP4, MP3, MKV, AVI, ...

1. To do so, click the "Choose your .thp file to play" button above.
2. Your THP file will then be displayed in the browser.

4. Then click the video format (e.g. MP4, MKV, AVI, ...) you want.

THP file format details:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the THP files is as follows:

THP is rarely used as a file extension and mainly uses a defined THP format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 75% of all THP files are GameCube THP video files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 1 MB to 130 MB in size. It is a modern file type. Files like these are sometimes connected to title, logo, movie, prologue, english, select, intro and demo.
• 10% of all THP files have the same signature «Üͺ. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. A typical file size is 99 KB.
