How do you open WP2 files?

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our analysis of the WP2 files produces the following result:

The WP2 file extension is not common and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 35% of all WP2 files belong to WinPlot data. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. Most of these files are 4 KB to 15 KB in size. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 1Courier New. Such files are related to graph.
• 10% of all WP2 files store the data in the UTF-32 (BE) file format. UTF-32 (BE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-32 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the four bytes 00 00 FE FF, the so called byte order mark (BOM). The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The file size is in the range of 5 MB to 32 MB. A usual file name is EXT00.WP2 or TITLE.WP2.
