What is a CMT file?

How do you open CMT files?

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the CMT files is as follows:

CMT is not a commonly used file extension and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 7% of all CMT files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "CM" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. CMT files can be up to 29 MB in size, but are often around 880 bytes - 21 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. CMTP.
• 5% of all CMT files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 06 86 60 81 22 E7 CD 19 2B 65 E4 E8 E8 21 22. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 130 bytes and 3 KB in size. COMMENTS.CMT is a typical file name.
