What is a D01 file?

D01 files mostly belong to Quantic Dream Engine. A file with the D01 extension can serve several specific roles. In many instances it is used as a key part of a larger, segmented data set. For example, in some games developed with the Quantic Dream Engine, a D01 file holds game data and acts as the first segment of a split archive.
Other uses include the following:

How to open a D01 file

You need a suitable software like Quantic Dream Engine to open a D01 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your D01 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a D01 file directly in the browser:. D01 file format:

To find out what program is needed to open D01 files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the D01 files:

As a file extension, D01 isn't very common and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 15% of all D01 files use the same file format, which have the signature QUANTICDREAMTABINDEX. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are 290 MB to 2 GB in size, with a median of 2 GB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as ------------ and QUANTICDREAMTABINDEX. An example of a file name is BigFile_PC.d01.
• 10% of all D01 files have the same signature ÿÿÿ. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 5 KB and 170 MB in size. Examples of file names are 20180601.D01.
