All about IM1 Files
The IM1 file type is primarily associated with DICOM.
What is an IM1 file?
How to open IM1 files
You need a suitable software like DICOM to open an IM1 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IM1 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IM1 file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert IM1 files:
IM1 file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the IM1 files looks like this:
The IM1 file extension is quite common and mainly uses a defined IM1 format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 75% of all IM1 files are using the well-known DICOM file format to store the data. DICOM is short for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine. DICOM files are used to store, exchange, and transmit medical images from radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and radiation therapy, but also personal data about the patient. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are 140 KB to 12 MB in size, with a median of 1 MB. The file type is old but is used even today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. DICM.
- 1% of all IM1 files belong to Sun Raster bitmap. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. IM1 files can be up to 82 KB in size, but are often around 64 bytes - 26 KB.
All other IM1 files (24%) have no consistent format. If you want to find out which format your IM1 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .im1 file to analyze".

an im1 medical image is a special file format by NEMA and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with IM1 files
- Associate the IM1 file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open medical images. Because only the current version supports the latest IM1 file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the NEMA manufacturer website after an available DICOM update.
- To make sure that your IM1 file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
