All about IM3 Files
The IM3 file type is primarily associated with Imaris.
What is an IM3 file?
Purpose: It stores detailed microscopy information such as layers of depth, color channels, and time series data. This file format is mostly associated with the Imaris imaging suite and used in systems like the PerkinElmer Vectra Polaris Imaging System.
Functionality:
How to open an IM3 file
You need a suitable software like Imaris to open an IM3 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IM3 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IM3 file directly in the browser:. Programs that open and convert IM3 files:
- Imaris
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. IM3 files are often referred to as Imaris 3d images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- DICOM (medical image) by NEMAIM3 is a medical image in DICOM format. DICOM is the abbreviation for "Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine" and is an international standard for storing, processing, printing, displaying, and transmitting medical images such as MRI and CT scans. It was first developed by the joint efforts of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The current version was developed by the DICOM Standards Committee (www.dicomstandard.org).
IM3 file format:
To view or edit IM3 files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our analysis of the IM3 files produces the following result:
The IM3 file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a special format. The file formats most commonly found in IM3 files are:
- 65% of all IM3 files use the popular DICOM file format. DICOM is short for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine. DICOM files are used to store, exchange, and transmit medical images from radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and radiation therapy, but also personal data about the patient. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 540 KB in size and range from 170 KB to 11 MB. It is a modern file type. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as DICM and 1.2.840.10008.5.1.4.1.1.4.
- 6% of all IM3 files start with the bytes C1 07 00 00 0B 00 00 00 46 69 6C 65 56 65 72 73, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 100 MB with most files being between 92 MB and 230 MB in size. The files contain the following words: FileVersion, ArchiveHashT and Thumbnail. An example of a file name is Case1_M1.im3. Such files sometimes refer to case.
The remaining 29% of all IM3 files are different files with different signatures. If you want to find out which format your IM3 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .im3 file to analyze".
Technical Data for IM3 File Extension
an im3 proprietary image file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with IM3 files
- Associate the IM3 file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open proprietary image files. Because only the current version supports the latest IM3 file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Imaris update.
- To make sure that your IM3 file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .IM3 file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
