All about SPD Files
The SPD file type is primarily associated with SPSS Statistics.
What is an SPD file
- Adobe: SPD file extension is used by Adobe for their PostScript line of products. These files include different settings and instructions used in Adobe's PostScript range of printers. Using the SPD format, the information stored in these files is related to configurations regarding the image, text, color and graphics manipulation features, all available in the Adobe PostScript printers. Adobe also uses SPD files as part of their Adobe Creative Suite software. This is a range of programs that enable photo editing, with features for image design and multimedia content authoring purposes.
- Samsung: SPD files are used by Samsung in their S Note note-taking application. This program can only be used on Samsung mobile devices. The files contain notes that include images, audio, charts, drawings and typed or handwritten text. SPD files have replaced the SBN files previously used by Samsung. These SPD files enable converting into other formats such as PDF, JPEG or text formats.
Adoption: SPD files used by Samsung for their note-taking application can be accessed only on Android through the Samsung S Note app or on Windows-based systems. As for SPD files used by Adobe, it's advised to not modify them to ensure that your Adobe products run smoothly.

SPD file format details:
To view or edit SPD files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the SPD files:
The SPD file extension is very common and mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in SPD files:
- 75% of all SPD files use ZIP compression, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one SPD file. SPD files contain from 7 to 9 compressed files. File names are e.g. 30_default_cover.jpg, end_tag.bin, note.note, pageIdInfo.dat, templatePageIdInfo.dat and \media\mediaInfo.dat. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. The file size is in the range of 6 KB to 190 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as page. Files like these are about note, memo, action, gmail, list, actionmemo, dummify, hutang, tesoro, anime, ction and quick.
- 3% of all SPD files have the same signature UVWIN SPECSCAN FILE. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. SPD files can be up to 14 KB in size, but are often around 1 KB - 13 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Administrator and UVWIN SPECSCAN FILE.
The remaining 22% of all SPD files are files with no common format, the following 8 formats can be found: Bitstream Speedo font, Microsoft Speech Data, ISL and VFSv. Often described as bkup, export, floor or plot. If you want to find out what your SPD file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
